Seeking Healthy Food Director
GORMAN & COMPANY, INC. is seeking someone that will implement a healthy food initiative. This would consist of planning a strategy to grow healthy vegetables on a 240 acre farm in Fitchburg Wisconsin. We would start with a few acres. The expectation would be that this person would choose the mix of vegetables, plant them, nurture them, and harvest them on the farm in Fitchburg. This person would also interact with managers of the roughly 6500 apartments that are managed by the company to teach residents how to cook the vegetables. This is a philanthropic venture. There will be no charge to the residents for the vegetables.
ABOUT THE BUSINESS: Gorman & Company, Inc. was formed almost 40 years ago to develop affordable rental housing (gormanusa.com). The firm has grown to be a vertically integrated affordable housing developer on a national scale. Its 460 employees serve as developer, architect, general contractor, and property manager of affordable housing communities in eight (8) states. Gary Gorman, the founder and former CEO, seeks to start a healthy food initiative as a means to give back to the residents that live in the firm’s communities.
PHILOSOPHY: The company is not in the food business and its people do not bring expertise in soils, plant biology, or nutrition to the venture. Consequently, this person would have significant autonomy. He/she would work independently for the most part. The company, more accurately Gary Gorman, would provide the land and capital, as well as the network with housing managers to make the healthy food initiative flourish.
TERMS: Compensation is negotiable. Generally, our folks are paid at the high end of market level compensation. Most likely this would be a full-time job from mid-April through September. We are certainly flexible in our hours so that the person could go to school at the same time.
APPLICATION PROCESS: Please submit a cover letter and resume to Gary Gorman at ggorman@gormanusa.com
