Position in CALS Office of Academic Affairs: CALS Career Services advisor
What do you enjoy most about your job?: Being a career advisor means meeting with individuals and groups at many different stages of career development. I enjoy meeting people where they are at in the process and helping them work towards their goals. One of my favorite moments that I share with students is when they get their resume looking just they want it to look and are proud to send it off to a potential employer or graduate school.
Favorite pastimes/hobbies (both before + during COVID): Pre-Covid I enjoyed traveling with my family around the country, road trips are a special favorite! I also really enjoyed trying out different restaurants. I still get to do that during Covid but less fun when you can’t get the whole experience of sitting in the restaurant. Right now I’m playing a lot of Animal Crossing with my children. We now have a 5 star island which is pretty exciting!
Plans for winter break/holidays: I’m planning on spending the holidays with my immediate family and Zooming with my loved ones. I also purchased a fancy advent calendar to have something to look forward to every day. Right now it’s all about the little things
Self-care/general advice: Laziness does not exist. Seriously… it’s a huge sigh of relief to realize YOU ARE NOT LAZY, more likely: you are burnt out, you’re struggling, and… we just aren’t meant to be as productive as we THINK we are supposed to be. Especially in the time of Covid, give yourself a break. If you want to read up more on the subject, check out social psychologist Dr. Devon Price’s book “Laziness Does Not Exist.” Fascinating stuff. This article was posted in A Message from the Dean.
