CALS Study Abroad is excited to announce a new virtual Winter Intersession 2021 program in Sri Lanka. This new virtual field experience program meets the field experience requirement for the Global Health Certificate and allows students to address issues of community health and asset-based community development by engaging with individuals and organizations in Sri Lanka in an online format. Students will explore topics such as nutrition, maternal and child health, infectious diseases, prevention and treatment of violence, psychosocial rehabilitation, traditional healing and meditation in the context of ethnic and religious diversity, poverty, recovery from natural disaster and civil war.
The virtual program will run from Monday, January 4th – Sunday, January 17th, with synchronous learning occurring from 4:30 – 6:30 pm or 7:00 – 9:00 pm on most weekdays, and synchronous group discussions from 9:00 – 11:00 am on Saturdays (Jan. 9 & 16). Outside of synchronous time, students will also be expected to complete readings, watch videos, and produce a combination of pre-virtual-trip research, presentations, reflection pieces/journal entries.
