The university has selected “The Poison Squad: One Chemist’s Single-Minded Crusade for Food Safety at the Turn of the Twentieth Century” for the Go Big Read 2019-2020 according to a press release. Authored by Deborah Blum, the text pays tribute to Dr. Harvey Washington Wiley and his work in food safety as chief chemist of the agriculture department in the late 1800’s. Go Big Read is a Chancellor’s initiative for students to share in a common reading experience.
