It’s important to follow up with employers after you visit with them at the career fair. This gives employers another chance to remember you and to see who you are. Following up is a lot more than just sending a simple thank you email. It’s about making sure that you stand out among all of the other applicants.
The first thing you should do after the career fair is send a detailed email to the employer or recruiter that you met with, especially if you had a really meaningful conversation and you want them to remember you. This email should be tailored to each employer you talk to and not just be a template. Here are some things you can include in the email:
- Mention anything unique that you discussed so that you are memorable to the employer.
- State your qualifications again and include any information that you forgot to share at the fair.
Another thing that is very important with following up is applying online. Sometimes applying for a position is just handing your resume to a recruiter, but other times you have to fill out an online application. After you apply, stay on the website and research the company if you don’t know what they do, which will come in handy and impress the employer if you get an interview.
Following up with an employer can be the difference between getting an interview and getting the job. It’s one of the most important things to do after a career fair, but also one of the things that gets forgotten the most.
